Those two blogs have totally different styles of sims from more Maxis-Match blogs, like pixelbots or brightlysimming, who use mostly Maxis content/edits of Maxis content, like Maxis-Match Sims 4 players do. Alpha clothing looks very different from Maxis clothing. Another big difference is clothing, like this sim by satellite-sims, or this sim by pandelabs. Some alpha CC users on Tumblr use photorealistic skin, like this sim by cualquiere. So alpha CC can still match the environment of the game, but there's quite a difference between how the sims of a Maxis-Match CC user and an alpha CC user look. In my opinion, the sims aren't very realistic but the environment is. The line between Maxis-Match and alpha CC is definitely more blurred in Sims 3, but as you can see from the picture, Rita's eyes are similar to the cartoony look of Sims 4 (you can see this more clearly with littledica's conversion of Sims 3 eyes to Sims 4), and the skin is even smoother (compare that to the realistic textured skin in Sims Medieval).
